Chase Hazen Wins National Wakesurf Competition and Completes 2009 Sweep

Shred Stixx Team Rider Chase Hazen pulled off the trick of the year in his final run at the Wakesurf Nationals to win his 5th title of the season and put himself at the top of the wakesurf world.  Hazen moved to Austin, TX this summer and has been riding with other Stixx Team Riders Jack Oman, Landon Reichle, Wes Beck, and Chris Kinsey on a regular basis and the progression of the sport can be witnessed with each surf session.  Chase has been practicing his run for over 3 months and with his final run of the day in Dayton he stomped the entire display of both big air and technical riding. This defining run included the backside Shuv to revert and proves that Chase Hazen is the king of surf style wakesurfing.  Chase dominated the mens pro division at Dayton but came up short in the best trick of the event contest and we are still trying to figure out how that works?  Check back at the slayshTank for video of this historic run and picture from Dayton, OH.

  5. Chase is one of the single best riders in the sport today, he truly deserved the win in the men’s surf open at Nationals. However, he isn’t throwing a sex change in his combination, which would be a kick flip with a body varial. Chase attempted his combination, which he didn’t land, which is a regular shuv, not backside switch, then when the fins catch he spins a 180 to ride backside switch and throws a body varial to return to riding frontside regular. The best trick award does require the rider to LAND the trick, not the case for Chase in this instance. He did land a very nice trick, which was first landed in the INT League amateur competitions on Villa Lagos 3 years ago, by James Walker, which is a shuv to 180 then riding backside switch. This same trick was performed by another rider at Nationals and there were women landing shuv’s in the open women’s surf contest, so the judges didn’t consider this shuv to backside switch the best trick. The best trick award did NOT have to go to the winner of a division and Chase won the men’s open surf for his overall Intensity, Composition and Execution. Congratulations to Chase for another fine win and demonstration of his talents.

  9. i’m not even sure what a shuv or revert are but it sounds to me like surferdad should have one best trick for his explanation which dates back 3 years. is there such thing as a wakesurf historian?
