Team Rider Alex Mau and the 2010 River Stixx are featured on RiverSurferMagazine.com with a preview for the 2010 season. The magazine caught up with Alex for a quick interview about the sport and what to expect next season.
CRSA#1.Did you get to the Ocean over the winter? where did you surf if you did ,what are some of your favorite ocean breaks.?
Alex :Yes, I went to oceanside. I always like to surf beach breaks because the waves are always different.
CRSA2#How long have you been surfing? and how do you feel surfing in rivers differs from surfing in oceans?
Alex:I have surfed for a 4 years. There is no limit to how long of a ride you get in the river.
CRSA3#You are a Golden wave local “Alex’s wave is sick” what are the conditions of clear creak have you surfed yet? I have seen you surfing in Pueblo have you surfed many other waves? and what is your favorite wave in Colorado so far?
Alex:Clear creak is mellow, I’m surfing tomorrow! There is a number of waves that i want to surf. My wave has to be my favorite cause its in a private spot and only one other person has surfed it.
CRSA4#Golden is a great wave park it would be sick as you have said “to build a wave that is perfect for surfing there”What kind of wave would you think would be best mini Tube for sure open face Munich style wave?
Alex:It would be amazing to get a Munich style wave to clear creak! It would help the sport get jump started! There are so many boogie borders that ride there and if there was a surfing wave i believe they would pick up surfing!
CRSA5# What type of surfboards do you ride in the river? what would be a good design in your opinion? .Many new riverboards like Rat and Imagine are making some cool stuff built for speed in the mush?
Alex: The board I have rode to date is a INT 4″11 with a swallow tail, but I will be riding the 2010 River Stixx next season.
CRSA6#You are a great guitarist, cool surf songs how long have you been playing and writing songs?You got any new songs our shows in the works ?
Alex :Its been a slow process.
CRSA7#I know about your stoke for river surfing where do you see the future of river surfing going in the USA?Meaning a voice from the youth compared to my ole school ways?I know like others there are many waves that have not been discovered here in Colorado and the USA .Do you think a competitive circuit could be established some day for the USA to compete in world wide river surfing events?
Alex:In the next couple of years I hope to see river surfing become more competitive! A river surfing comp could be judged the same way as a regular surfing comp. We just need sponsors and more publicity!
