slayshTank Music: A Circus Mind Moment with Jerry Garcia

long distance runner, what you standin' there for?

A few of us around here at the Tank are heading up to NYC for the weekend to catch a Further show at Radio City Music.  In honor of this monumental weekend, we revisit a Circus Mind featuring Jerry Garcia.

Jerry Garcia

South of the Marin Headlands on a golden road
Holding heavy weight, bow and pray, I’ll carry the load
In my presence learning lessons, you’re awake in the light
Of dreams in a narrow circle flowing from the center counter clockwise

The wind of freedom blows high in the redwood trees
Under the city’s seal, I was dealt a deal to live outside of reality
While my eyes were reading over the lives of the mad mad ones
I opened my eyes in firecracker surprise to see my life had just begun

A to Z, categorically, I turned to find an angel responding to charity
I held her hand, introduced her to the band and she joined us quickly
I am rubbing the neck and belly of a wolf, in my hands I stand bullet proof
With a metal slide, fit to glide, I’m along for the ride in lessons for the youth

As I turned to see myself, I saw my reflection in the mirror of time
It reflected an irony so deep I laughed and winked at my open eye
On red roses I rest my bones, by the dark river, I’m walking home
I’m going on, to familiar winds, as I spin the words, to one last song
