European Wakesurf Cup Announced

For the 8th year in a row The French Wakesurfing Association (AFWS) and Talloires Organisation, together with Wake the Best wakesurf and wakeboard school, proudly present their wakesurf event « King of the Lake ». In addition, this competition will be this year the first European Wakesurfing Cup. The event will be held on the 3rd and 4th of September 2011 in Angon, Talloires, Annecy Lake.
Born in 2004 on the shores of Lake Annecy, the French competition has grown to be an international event with more than 10 different nationalities represented amongst the riders. Stars of the sport like Dominic Lagacé or Chase Hazen have become familiars of the venue.
A success that can be linked to the growth of wakesurfing, a freeriding sport where you surf the wave produced by the wake of a tow boat. The true ancestor of wakeboarding has made a come back in the past few years thanks to bigger boats allowing the wave to be bigger and better.
The principal sponsor of the event withdrew its participation last year and uncertainty reigned until recently as to the happening of the competiition. But thanks to the determination of its organizers and the quality of the event, brands like Red Bull, Liquid Force and Hyperlite, Smiths Optics or SkullCandy have decided to support the competition.
The venue has become throughout the years the most important wakesurf competition in Europe. It was therefore just a matter of time before it would become the first official European competition, which it has this year. The development of wakesurfing and the general raising of the level were in fact calling for that kind of competition, missing in Europe.
The 2011 edition will be a two days venue. Registration will close on the 1st of septembre on the website of the event www.kingofthelake.fr.
